Trainers will be revealed in April, but in the meantime, meet the horses who may be part of the 2025 Dakota Showdown!

Showcase Division
For trainers ready to take on the challenge of starting a horse under saddle. These horses already have a solid foundation in groundwork and are ready for their next step. Potential Horses subject to change prior to April 1, 2025

Eloise
Eloise is a kind 3-yr-old mare who is willing and ready to learn.

Cocoa
Cocoa is a 12-yr-old gelding who has riding experience but can be anxious and buddy sour.

Vixen
Vixen is an 11-yr-old mare who is started under saddle but can be pushy.

Smokey
Smokey is a 6-yr-old Mustang gelding who has been backed.

Eliana
Eliana is a 10-yr-old mustang mare who is friendly and strong.
Foundation Division
Trainers work with BLM Mustangs or unhandled rescues, focusing on socialization, groundwork, and handling skills to prepare them for adoption. Potential Horses subject to change prior to April 1, 2025

Dewey
Friendly 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. He is already in your pocket and learning fast.

Forrest
Leggy 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. He's the second to accept a halter and becoming very friendly.

Onyx
Handsome 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. Onyx has also been haltered and seeks attention, and is very playful and mouthy.

Twister
Sweet 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. Twister is curious but cautious, and the most submissive of the group.

Thunder
Confident 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. Thunder is the boss of the boys and extremely smart. While not yet haltered, he is picking things up in the round pen very quickly and is a powerhouse.

Kelvin
Cautious 3-yr-old BLM Mustang gelding. Kelvin is also picking things up in the round pen and curious, but not as friendly as some of the others. He will excel when there are less horses in his pen.
Rising Star Division
The Rising Star Division is a non-competitive division designed for 1-2-year-old horses and trainers of all experience levels, including youth as young as 12 years old. This division focuses on socialization, basic groundwork, and confidence-building, giving young horses the skills they need to succeed in future training.
