Kassie competed in the 2022 Dakota Showdown Trainer's Challenge. She came to Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue from a large law enforcement impoundment case due to neglect where several horses had already died. Kassie, and her friends, are all lovely, well bred Quarter Horses who found themselves in a bad place - and thankfully had somewhere safe to go!
Not many people want to adopt teenage broodmares and stallions, no matter how beautiful they are. The Dakota Showdown was started to develop partnerships with professionals in the horse community to allow us all to help horses like Kassie - nice, sound, healthy horses that deserve a better life.
While Kassie was not originally adopted after the Showdown, Gentle Spirit Horses was able to send her to one of the Dakota Showdown trainers for another month of training, and worked to find her a new home while she improved her skills and got started under saddle. As her 30 days came to an end, we encouraged a potential adopter to go meet her and the next thing we knew she was adopted! We have agreed to split the cost of another month of training and are excited to see Kassie find a new family!
