Update on #showdownteamlucy

  • June 23, 2024
#showdownteamlucy is surpassing all expectations! If you aren't aware of her history, Lucy was transferred in last year from one of our partner rescues but we found quickly that she had severe separation and protective issues that made her aggressive with little warning. We weren't comfortable putting her in the Showdown last year, as we felt she was not mentally sound and could hurt someone. Instead, we put her in pasture with our magical herd (seriously, they are an amazing tool for helping other horses heal) and gave her time to decompress, relearn how to be a horse and that humans were ok, and then started to work on her separation and protective instincts. Kaylee had met Lucy a couple of times last year (drop off and pickups) and was very aware of her problems, so when we said we thought she was ready for training and the next steps she agreed to give her that chance. We are SO GLAD she did because look at what a rockstar Lucy is being with Kaylee's patience and skills!

It's always nice with more challenging horses when things start to click and they really progress. We are so excited with this update and can't wait to see what they accomplish in the next 2+ months!
Lucy will be available for adoption through a bidding process to approved adopters on August 24-25, 2024, at the Dakota Showdown Finale. Keep watching #showdownteamlucy and don't miss the chance to bring her home!
